Relocation: the language of migration

On April 23 at 18:00 in Helsinki, we invite you to the first event of our discussion series, "How has the Russian language evolved in the 2020s?".

Our first topic will be "Relocation: the language of migration". During this meeting, we will discuss what the new wave of emigration entails and how phrases such as "border interrogation," "emigration case," "filter country," "go into the woods," "mobik," "relocant," and many others have entered everyday Russian language.

Speakers include individuals who were forced to leave Russia in 2022 and who have since received political asylum in Finland:

• Svetlana Utkina, municipal deputy and activist, Saint Petersburg

• Sergei Bondarev, film industry analyst, scriptwriter, and editor, Moscow

• Sergei Filenko, carpenter, publicist, and activist, Petrozavodsk

The discussion will be moderated by Nikita Kirillov, journalist, environmentalist, and polar researcher.
